The heart of all separate-component systems is the preamplifier, and the thirteen-tube Shadow Reference includes a phono stage driven by six 12AX7s. Raven Audio engineered our preamps to perfectly match all our tube stereo and monoblock amplifiers as well as a variety of other amplifiers and components. Our preamplifiers are designed to the same exacting standards as the rest of the line and deliver vivid, immersive and musical sound.
The chassis of the Shadow Reference preamplifier/phono preamplifier is machined from solid-billet aluminum with solid-bronze corner posts, brass trim and
stainless-steel screws. Chrome ball footers isolate the amplifiers and tubes for better sound while avoiding scratches on your fine furniture. It’s all hand-wired point-to-point with silver-plated PTFE-coated conductors, three types of solder with a pure-copper buss bar. The Shadow Reference features an ALPS 20k ohm motorized volume control that you can upgrade with a Tokyo Ko-on attenuator on request.
The preamplifier is tube-rectified with a solid-state power supply and the phono stage is loaded at 47k ohms for high-output MC (moving-coil) or MM (moving-magnet) cartridges.
